This is a 1997 BMW Z3 in Boston Green with beige Oregon leather interior. Powered by a 1.9 liter 4-cylinder engine, it's traveled 46,000 miles since assembly in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This example spent its life as an Oregon wine country weekend runabout, never seeing a drop of rain. This leads to a machine that practically shoots itself. With a classic green and tan Oregon backdrop in mind, I took on the photoshoot for its Bringatrailer auction in the forests surrounding Mt. Hood.
Boston Green is my favorite Z color. It can be distinguished from the later Oxford Green through its deep blue tint in certain light. It was important to bring out this color as much as possible and contrast it with the subtle warm tones of the tan interior. The forest road backdrop at sunset served as the perfect setting to naturally bring out the best of this classic color combination.
I thoroughly enjoy the auction world. Meeting people, sharing stories, and exercising a creative vision all come into play. It's about so much more than just selling a car.
The car went on to set a record for non-James Bond 1.9 Z3s.
The 1.9 is the lightest and purest roadster experience of the Z3's seven year model run, despite comparisons made to their 6-cylinder and M-car counterparts. It was refreshing to see such care given to an otherwise forgotten car.
